Destiny 2: The Final Shape release date, prismatic subclass, and new enemy revealed

Destiny 2’s new DLC looks to deliver an ending that fans deserve.

Destiny 2 developers have just released their first peek into the coming DLC, The Final Shape. The preview includes gameplay footage of the new Prismatic subclass, a look into a new enemy, the Dread, and gives fans a date to circle on the calendar for when the new DLC will be released. Let's take a look at what to expect.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape release date

When is the next Destiny DLC coming, you ask? Well, according to today's release from developers, Destiny 2: The Final Shape will finally arrive on June 4. The update also announced that Into the Light will go live on April 9, which should give players some much-needed content to tide them over until the long-awaited DLC goes live.

New Prismatic subclass coming in The Final Shape

When The Final Shape does eventually take shape, players will have the opportunity to play a new Prismatic subclass that combines the powers of light and darkness. In this subclass, players will be able to combine elements from different subclasses in the game to make their guardian truly feel unique to them, something the franchise has never done prior to this moment.

Additionally, the new subclass will allow players to enter a state called Transcendence which, according to developers, is triggered by combining light and darkness damage which "will charge two meters that, when filled, enable a temporary state of Transcendence that unlocks a new unique grenade ability and weapon damage bonuses."

The new subclass will also come with new exotic class items that will allow for even more customization, which seems to be one of the biggest overarching forces behind this DLC. These new exotics will work specifically with the new subclass and "will each roll with two random exotic perks inspired by a selection of other exotic armor pieces, even from different classes," according to the developers.

The Dread: A new enemy arriving in The Final Shape

With The Witness coming in as the new primary antagonist in the franchise, it makes sense that a new enemy type would enter the fray. The Dread are, according to developers, "the embodiment of the Witness" and their art style and abilities reflect that.

These new enemies look truly unique when compared to the Hive or others that have come and gone in the franchise and will offer players new challenges as they traverse what could be the final expansion of Destiny 2.

Is The Final Shape the end of Destiny?

For now, developers have not given us a clear-cut answer to this question, but many have speculated that The Final Shape could be the final iteration of Destiny 2's live service. As we continue to receive more information about The Final Shape, we will keep updating fans on how it fits into the franchise's overall timeline.
